Chesterfield County Public Schools is Hiring a Courier Near Chesterfield, VA

Processes both internal mail service for county and schools and mail delivered by US Postal Service. Routine work is performed within specific departmental procedures, under direct supervision and requires coordination with others as necessary. Receives daily work instructions from Team Leader. Actions may impact efficiency and effectiveness. 
  • Picks up mail daily at all schools and county buildings. Loads and delivers mail to the central area for sorting and distribution. Distributes mail to schools and county buildings daily.
  • Sorts mail according to destination and type. 
  • Prepares mail for US Postal Service. 
  • Performs daily maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment assigned and reports any problems or needs promptly.
  • Works with other warehouse workers, school officials, county officials and staff to resolve problems. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Utilizes equipment pertaining to mail distribution.

Continuous contact with all levels of Facility Services staff, school administrators and staff and county government officials.

Frequent independent decision-making and problem-solving as it relates to mail distribution. Seek supervisor’s approval for situations outside of routine procedures.

The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; stand, walk, climb and carry and use hands to climb, move, handle or feel objects, tools and equipment and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly performs work in outside weather conditions. Work may be around moving or mechanical equipment. Noise level is moderate to loud. 

Working knowledge of mail handling equipment. Demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently with various types of automated equipment. Demonstrated ability to read and sort mail; to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to work independently and provide work guidance to others as necessary. Any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this job. Valid VA Driver's License. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
